Phil Jones believes Manchester United can still win the Premier League title despite their poor form in recent weeks.
Man United are in the midst of an eight game winless streak in all competitions, although they were much improved in the 0-0 draw against Chelsea last time out.
It is an alarming slump and one that has led to calls for Louis van Gaal to be sacked. However, Jones insisted United are still in the hunt for the title.
“It’s strange but the table shows that literally anyone can win the league this season. Arsenal, Chelsea, Leicester, (Manchester) City, ourselves, Tottenham, Stoke, Watford… nobody seems to want to win it,” Jones said.
“It only takes a good run of five, six, seven games and getting a few wins and it soon turns around. We’re disappointed with the way we’ve played over the past few games, although we did well against Chelsea, but by no means are we out of (the title race). If we can put a few wins together we’ll be right back up there.”
Perhaps United should focus on finishing in the top four of the Premier League first of all.
United are in serious danger of missing out on Champions League qualification as they have been abysmal in recent weeks, save for the game against Chelsea. Van Gaal’s side face Swansea City this weekend and they will need to be on top form as they cannot afford to get anything less than three points. Van Gaal can have no complaints if United don’t secure victory and he is sacked.
