Ashley Young: I wouldn’t want to face Anthony Martial

Ashley Young has admitted that he wouldn’t want to face Manchester United teammate Anthony Martial.

Martial was in supreme form for Man United on Saturday as his side sealed a crucial 2-1 victory.

The Frenchman scored United’s opening goal with a powerful header before he set up Wayne Rooney’s winner with an excellent run down the left hand side of the pitch. Young was full of praise for Martial following the clash.

“Martial’s shown that week in, week out. We’ve just seen the video back of how quick he looked going down the line – I wouldn’t want to be facing him,” Young said.

“He was fantastic today – he got a goal and set up Waz [Rooney] as well. But I thought it was a great team performance – everyone from the back to the front worked as a team and we deserved the three points.”

Martial was quiet in the first half by his standards but he kicked on in the second period along with the rest of his teammates.

The forward, only 20 years old, has been one of the main positives for United this term following his big money move from Monaco this summer. Martial will only get better as he settles in at Old Trafford and it will be exciting to see how he develops. The hope is that he avoids injury and maintains a consistent spot in the starting XI.
