Dion Dublin has identified Chris Smalling as Manchester United’s unsung hero this season.
Smalling has been in sensational form over the course of the campaign and he is now widely considered to be one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League.
Dublin, who played for Man United between 1992 and 1994, singled out the Englishman for special praise.
Smalling’s early career at United saw him suffer mixed form due to injuries and being played out of position.
However, since a red card against Manchester City last year, Smalling has gone from strength to strength, putting in a number of superb displays. He really has been one of United’s most consistent and reliable performers as of late along with the likes of David de Gea.
The hope is that a similar upturn in fortunes will happen to Phil Jones but the 23-year-old continues to be in and out of the starting XI due to injury. While Smalling pushes on, Jones has stagnated and time is running out for him at Old Trafford.
