Quique Sanchez Flores has insisted that rumoured Manchester United target Odion Ighalo will not leave Watford in the January transfer window.
Ighalo has been in sensational form for the Hornets this term, racking up 14 goals over the course of the campaign.
The 26-year-old recently admitted that it would be a “dream” to play for Man United as rumours continue to link him with a move to Old Trafford. However, Flores ruled out an exit for Ighalo and Troy Deeney, who has also impressed this season.
“Normally it is impossible when big clubs make offers, but there are exceptions. I have seen almost everything over 30 years in football,” Flores said.
“I am happy to keep our best players here and to grow the project and it is completely impossible that Deeney or Ighalo will leave this month.”
United have also been linked with moves for the likes of Newcastle United’s Ayoze Perez, Everton’s John Stones and Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez but deals this month look unlikely.
The fact is that the amount of money swirling around in the Premier League right now has made clubs less inclined to sell their star assets, particularly mid-season. Unless United have a trick up their sleeve, they will have to make do with what they have as they enter the second half of the campaign. Whether they go in for Ighalo or anyone else in the summer remains to be seen.
