Louis van Gaal: Manchester United have always attacked this season

Louis van Gaal has insisted that his Manchester United side have always played attacking football this season.

Man United have been criticised at various points over the course of the campaign following some meek displays in front of goal.

Van Gaal oversaw an eight game winless streak in all competitions over the festive period and there were numerous calls for the Dutchman to be sacked. However, van Gaal believes United are improving.

“We are always playing attacking football, only now we have scored and that is the difference,” van Gaal said.

“That shall give more confidence and we have still to see that because one swallow doesn’t make a summer. I hope we progress because I see it in the training sessions, but you have to show it on the pitch.”

United have been much better in recent games against Chelsea and Swansea City but the eight game winless stretch was inexcusable and it is a wonder how van Gaal survived the period.

Nevertheless, he remains in charge of United and supporters should get behind the team. That being said, the optimism that has been built up recently will undoubtedly disappear if United are knocked out of the FA Cup by Sheffield United on Saturday. Van Gaal cannot afford anything less than a convincing victory.
