Ben Pearson expected to complete Preston North End move soon

Manchester United midfielder Ben Pearson is close to completing his move to Preston North End.

The 21-year-old midfielder went through the formalities of a medical at Preston this weekend and an announcement could come as early as Monday.

News broke over the weekend that Pearson was set to join Preston for £100,000 having only just returned to the club from a successful loan spell at Barnsley.

For those who watch United’s academy sides, seeing Pearson leave before he is given an opportunity with the first-team is a bitter pill to swallow. After all, he was named Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year back in 2013 but is yet to be given an opportunity to break into the first-team squad.

Pearson’s a full blooded, committed midfielder who buzzes around the pitch for 90 minutes, biting at the heels of opponents. That’s what made me appreciate him because he did the jobs that others didn’t want to at that level, so I was keen to see that tenacious style brought into the first-team but as it happens it looks like I won’t be getting to see that at United.

Not every youngster can make it at the club but Pearson’s style really reminded me of Roy Keane at times, which is why I was excited to see how his career went. Preston will have a fantastic prospect in Pearson and I do wish him the best of luck because he’s got excellent potential to become a very good midfielder.
