Adnan Januzaj expected to return tonight for Manchester United’s U21s

Louis van Gaal wants to see Adnan Januzaj show his qualities for Manchester United’s U21s on Monday night.

The 20-year-old midfielder has returned to the club following a dismal loan spell at Borussia Dortmund and is going to get another opportunity to impress van Gaal this season.

So long as the paperwork is completed, Januzaj is expected to play and van Gaal is hoping he can shine.

Speaking after Januzaj’s return, van Gaal said: “He has been tested already this morning, he didn’t play so much 90 minutes, only pre-season, and he has to show his fitness in the second team and then we also have to see if the paperwork is alright and if he can play in the second-team on Monday.

“He is fit to play, and that is also very good, then he can show his quality.”

Just like I said about Andreas Pereira before he turned on the style with two goals against Tottenham Hotspur’s U21s side, I expect Januzaj to stand-out on Monday night in all the right ways.

U21s football was well beneath him when he was given the opportunity by David Moyes with our first-team, so if he struggles then he’ll have a tough time working his way back into van Gaal’s plans any time soon.

For me, I’m excited to see Januzaj back at the club. He should never have joined Dortmund on loan in the first place because of how little game time he might get and that doubt was proved correct. Now that’s in the past, hopefully he can kick on and improve, starting with a strong performance for United’s U21s on Monday night.
