Bastian Schweinsteiger ruled out of Newcastle United game

Louis van Gaal has confirmed Bastian Schweinsteiger is ruled out of Manchester United’s game with Newcastle United on Tuesday.

The German midfielder looked to have suffered a serious injury when he went down in pain holding his knee against Sheffield United.

Although he got up to finish the game, he hasn’t been able to recover in time for Tuesday night’s game and Man United will have to do without him.

Speaking at his press conference, van Gaal said: “Bastian Schweinsteiger is injured, that we know. We have to see if [other] players are still overloaded or not.”

What concerns me is that Morgan Schneiderlin is not certain to be fit at the same time. That could mean we’ll see Michael Carrick line up alongside Marouane Fellaini against Newcastle, which is a recipe for disaster from the word go.

With results not going our way and momentum proving difficult to hold on to, further injuries are the last thing United need right now but Schweinsteiger is now unavailable and there are no guarantees Schneiderlin will be able to return either.
