Manchester United: De Gea; Young, Smalling, Blind, Darmian; Schneiderlin, Fellaini; Lingard, Herrera, Martial; Rooney

Subs: Romero, Borthwick-Jackson, McNair, Varela, Pereira, Mata, Memphis

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has named an unchanged side for the Premier League clash against Liverpool this afternoon.

Marouane Fellaini starts in midfield alongside Morgan Schneiderlin, while Jesse Lingard, Ander Herrera and Anthony Martial occupy the attacking positions behind Wayne Rooney.

Ashley Young should provide width and pace down the right hand side of defence and Chris Smalling will be hoping for a better display after conceding a penalty against Newcastle United last time out.

The inclusion of Fellaini will raise eyebrows as the Belgian has been far from convincing in a deep midfield position as of late but, with Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger injured, van Gaal doesn’t have the luxury of options.

It is likely that United will be far more conservative at Anfield as they were too open against Newcastle. Whatever happens, it is crucial that van Gaal gets a positive result as defeat against United’s fierce rivals will ramp up the pressure on him and the team.
