Adnan Januzaj enjoyed a perfect return for Manchester United with a brace against Southampton’s U21s.
In the first half, Januzaj slotted home a precise finish right into the bottom corner and he scored his second after some excellent footwork from Will Keane and a smart pass into his path allowed Januzaj to fire home another goal.
Januzaj was then taken off by Warren Joyce so he didn’t complete the full 90 minutes but it was an excellent performance for a player who has been out of action for so long.
With the weekend’s game in mind, on-looking coaches from Man United’s first-team will have been happy to see Warren Joyce brought off before the end of the game or more likely it would have been at their request in the first place.
After such a disappointing loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, Januzaj has every right to be a little disheartened but he’s now been given a fresh chance to prove himself by Louis van Gaal after being recalled to United.
We’re desperately lacking real quality in attack this season. That’s not to say Januzaj is going to solve all of those problems but a direct, pacy winger who is confident with the ball at his feet can add something to our options at the very least.
As Januzaj showed tonight against Southampton’s U21s, he’s far too good for football at that level and with two goals under his belt in an accomplished performance, we should definitely see him in the squad this weekend.
