Wayne Rooney included in PA Premier League Team of the Week

Wayne Rooney has been named in Press Association’s Premier League Team of the Week after his performance against Liverpool.

Manchester United’s captain popped up with what proved to be the winning goal on 78 minutes when he lashed home a rebound after Marouane Fellaini‘s header came back off the crossbar.

With five goals in his last four appearances, Rooney has come into some real goalscoring form ever since Louis van Gaal left him on the bench for the first half against Stoke City and Man United are reaping the rewards.

This is what we want to see from Rooney, our main man on paper – he needs to be leading the line. Prior to his run of form, he was atrocious in front of goal this season but hats off to him, he’s starting to provide again.

We’ve got Southampton and Stoke at home within the space of four days starting on Saturday. Neither game will be easy but with the home advantage, United should be looking to win both of them and if we can make it three wins on the bounce heading into February, that momentum could carry us towards an unlikely title push.

After all, despite our dreadful form, we’re still only seven points off the top.
