Manchester United have had a very quiet transfer window in terms of incomings this January but it hasn’t stopped some rumours from growing out of control.
Tonight’s reports linking Ezequiel Lavezzi in particular have morphed out of control.
Squawka say that Lavezzi will join Man United ‘within hours’, one very bold claim, but where does the story originate?
Squawka cite the Metro but they have no mention whatsoever of any deal happening ‘within hours’, they merely suggest United officials had met with Lavezzi’s representatives and discussed a potential deal.
Going back to the original source Tribal Football, which The Telegraph have even picked up on as part of their gossip column, they say Paris St Germain has agreed to sell Lavezzi for €8m; a claim which is, as far as we can see, not being replicated across any major French or English outlet which is something you’d expect for such big news.
All in all, the reports that we’re about to sign Lavezzi in time for the Southampton game this weekend seem wild.
Plus, regardless of how good or bad he is doing at PSG, would they let him go for €8m when they paid upwards of €30m when he joined? It seems a bit underpriced when Steven Naismith is joining Norwich City for around €10m.
I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on Lavezzi and whether you think he would actually be a player who could add to our squad. That being said, for the time being, that doesn’t look likely, even if some reports suggest it is.
