Morgan Schneiderlin: Wayne Rooney is still the ‘main figure’ at Manchester United

Morgan Schneiderlin believes Wayne Rooney is still the “main figure” at Manchester United.

Rooney scored the only goal of the game as Louis van Gaal‘s side beat Liverpool 1-0 in the Premier League last week.

The Man United captain seems to have found form after a disappointing 2015 having now scored five goals in his past four games. Schneiderlin insisted that Rooney will be pivotal if United are to make a success of their campaign.

“Wayne is still the main figure at the club, he’s the one guy who has scored so many goals in his career and he will keep doing it. Sometimes you have spells where you don’t score but he has kept the smile on his face and trained hard,” Schneiderlin said.

“You saw his two goals against Newcastle [United] were very good and today he scored another amazing goal. We need him in the second half of the season if we are to achieve something special.”

Rooney was dropped to the substitute’s bench for the trip to Stoke City towards the end of last year and it seems to have galvanised him as he has been superb ever since.

United needed someone to step up to the plate following a run of awful form and Rooney has picked the perfect time to find his scoring boots once again. The 30-year-old will be looking to continue his good form against Southampton this weekend.
