Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes Manchester United can win the Premier League title this season.
Man United recorded a 1-0 victory against Rodgers’ former side last week thanks to Wayne Rooney’s winner.
The result left United fifth in the Premier League table, two points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur and seven behind Arsenal at the summit. Rodgers insisted United can triumph come May if they string together a run of victories in the second half of the campaign.
When asked if United can win the league, Rodgers said: “Any team, in the second part of the season, which can put a run together, can do that.
“It is obviously very open this season, and it was a huge win for them [on Sunday]. I have been involved in these games and I know how much it means for everyone. They kept a clean sheet, got the three points and where they sit in the table, if they can get a run of eight, nine and ten wins, they have a great chance.”
Getting “eight, nine” or “ten” wins in a row is much easier said than done. United have been awful for the majority of the campaign and they were lucky to leave Anfield with three points on Sunday.
It’s safe to say that supporters are taking it one game at a time, with Southampton next up. United’s win against Liverpool was a huge confidence booster but the team still has to be much better, particularly if they are harbouring title ambitions.
