From Spain: Manchester United have made ‘big’ offer for James Rodriguez

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United do love going after Real Madrid’s players don’t we?

In the last couple of years we’ve successfully signed Angel di Maria and saw a long drawn out affair for Sergio Ramos which culminated in him signing a new contract at Madrid. Not to mention the Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo debacles which continue to linger on.

Now, it is the turn of James Rodriguez following claims from Sport.es, as covered by Sport Witness, that Man United have already made a big offer for the Colombian midfielder.

Is Rodriguez just going to be the latest pipe dream in the papers for a United signing? Well, he’s hardly in the best of shape in Madrid right now – quite literally.

Sport.es have criticised Rodriguez for his ‘party’ attitude and the fact he’s regularly spotted on nights out, calling into question his overall integrity and professionalism as a footballer. The fact he’s not in Zinedine Zidane’s first-team plans at the moment is indicative of a delicate situation.

As Sport Witness touch on in their report, Sport.es is a Catalan newspaper which should be taken into account but all doesn’t look well for Rodriguez in Madrid at the moment and the fact Jorge Mendes is his agent certainly gives United an added edge, given how close his relationship is to the club.

Would I like Rodriguez at the club? I think a player of that quality is hard to turn down but I’d be interested to hear whether you think he’s the sort of player who could solve our attacking problems or would he just be another squad player? Let me know in the comments below.
