Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars has insisted Anwar El Ghazi will not leave the club this month amid rumoured interest from Manchester United and Liverpool.
El Ghazi broke into the Ajax first team last season, scoring 10 goals, and he has continued to impress this time around having found the net eight times.
There were reports that Liverpool and Man United were readying £8m bids but Overmars rubbished the speculation, insisting that El Ghazi will remain at Ajax for at least the remainder of the month.
“The player is not for sale and no club has come forward in a concrete way for El Ghazi with an economic offer,” Overmars said.
United are in dire need of reinforcements this month but it is unclear who they are actually targeting, if anyone at all.
That being said, it is unlikely that Ajax would publicly acknowledge United’s interest so as to not anger their fans. The hope is that United have a surprise lined up as the January transfer window comes to a close.
