Ronald Koeman: Southampton can beat Manchester United

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman believes his side are more than capable of beating Manchester United this weekend.

Southampton head into the clash at Old Trafford in good form having recorded three straight victories in all competitions against Crystal Palace, Watford and West Bromwich Albion.

The last meeting between the two sides, in September of last year, ended in a 3-2 victory to Man United thanks to Anthony Martial’s brace. Koeman insisted Southampton will give United a tough test.

“Of course we can beat Manchester United,” Koeman said.

”In the last meeting we were better. We know we can beat them, but we have to perform at a high level.”

Southampton have shown in recent years that they can match the best teams in the country on their day and United will need to be on top form if they are to secure all three points.

Anything less than a win would spoil the optimism that has surrounded the club since a 1-0 win against Liverpool last time out. It will be interesting to see how Louis van Gaal sets up his side against the Saints.
