Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is set to be given a new Manchester United contract worth £10,000 a week.
The Mirror reports that would be a 500% increase for the 18-year-old who has been enjoying his breakthrough season at Man United.
Having made his debut against West Brom at home, Borthwick-Jackson has gone on to start against Wolfsburg, Bournemouth and Southampton and was brought off the bench away to Liverpool as well.
Not many expected Borthwick-Jackson to get the opportunities he has got this season but I’ve been quietly impressed with his performances and think he absolutely deserves a new contract. After all, £10,000 a week is a drop in the ocean in terms of what players are paid in the modern age.
With Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo an Ashley Young out with serious injuries after surgery, Borthwick-Jackson has a huge chance to cement himself as our first-choice left-back for the next four months which would do wonders for his career.
Borthwick-Jackson’s emergence may well have stopped Louis van Gaal from signing a new left-back in January which would be indicative of the faith he has in him and during a season of turmoil, it’s excellent to see a local lad progressing.
