Louis van Gaal refuses to comment on speculation surrounding his future at Manchester United

Louis van Gaal refused to comment on speculation surrounding his future at Manchester United following the 1-0 loss against Southampton on Saturday.

Man United put in a dismal display at Old Trafford and were beaten by a late winner from Charlie Austin.

It was United’s sixth Premier League defeat this term and the 11th consecutive home game in which they’ve failed to score in the first half. Van Gaal believes his job is not an easy one right now.

“It was a poor game for the fans. I can imagine [why] also because I have seen also a poor match. We didn’t create any chances,” van Gaal said.

“I cannot change that feeling. I can only work hard with my players to improve our game and that is what I am doing.

“Of course I am disappointed but already I put the question of how I can change this because we have to change this. That is my job and it is not an easy job at the moment.”

When asked if he feared for his, van Gaal replied: “I cannot answer that.”

Confidence in van Gaal among supporters seems to have disappeared completely and there is a sense that van Gaal’s tenure at Old Trafford will end sooner rather than later.

That being said, the Dutchman survived a recent eight game winless run in all competitions. It remains to be seen how United’s board reacts to the latest awful performance from the team.
