Man United transfer round-up: Victor Valdes joins Standard Liege

Here is the latest Man United transfer news and gossip.

Manchester United have confirmed Victor Valdes has joined Standard Liege on a season long loan with immediate effect.

The 34-year-old is yet to be unveiled as a Standard Liege player but was in Belgium on Sunday night to watch their game against Gent. I’d expect to see him holding up a Liege shirt on Monday.

All United fans will be glad that the Valdes debacle is now in the past, for the time being at least. We’ll see what happens when his loan spell expires in the summer but I don’t expect to see him coming back to the club any time soon.

Reports suggest Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is set to be given a new contract worth £10,000 a week. He deserves that after his breakthrough season and I’d be happy to see him stay at the club as it would be excellent to have 20-year-old Luke Shaw and 18-year-old Borthwick-Jackson as our left-back options. Future proof.

Elsewhere, reports say United have been scouting Genoa goalkeeper Matti Perin as work is continuing behind the scenes in case David de Gea leaves in the summer, so an adequate replacement can be found.
