Matteo Darmian says he’s fine despite fears after injury against Southampton

Matteo Darmian has said he is OK after suffering a serious injury scare in Manchester United’s defeat to Southampton.

The Italian defender was taken off in the second half following a collision in Man United’s box and Louis van Gaal confirmed after the that he went to hospital as he was spitting blood.

That led to real concerns over his well being but in an update on Twitter, Darmian insisted there wasn’t any problem.

Given that effectively every other senior full-back in the squad is already injured, it would have been a catastrophic blow to lose Darmian at this point in the season but it looks like there are no serious problems following his injury against Southampton.

United are in such a rut right now in every department and the last thin we need is another big injury to limit van Gaal’s options even more, so it’s good to hear Darmian is fine because some thought he could have suffered the same sort of broken rib injury which kept Ander Herrera out of the team for some time last year.

Despite Darmian insisting he is fine, I would still expect to see him rested for the derby game on Friday night in order to make sure he was fit to face Stoke next week.
