Ed Woodward holds talks with Manchester United players to identify the problems

Ed Woodward has taken the decision to speak to some Manchester United players following their 1-0 defeat to Southampton at the weekend.

As reported by Sky Sports, Woodward pulled some senior players aside to discuss the root cause of Man United’s current problems and what could be done to address them.

Some of United’s problems are obvious in that the players simply aren’t good enough at the moment but neither is the manager in what he is doing both on and off the pitch.

Louis van Gaal is currently away in the Netherlands as it is his daughter’s birthday, so these meetings would have had to go ahead without the United boss there.

We can’t hide from how bad the current situation is for United, both on and off the pitch, and Woodward questioning the players themselves to try and find out the underlying causes is indicative of that. Our season is crumbling.

Is there still time to fix it? Yes, there is. We’ve got the best part of four months in which to turn around our fortunes but the major question is whether that picture includes van Gaal or whether he is going to be replaced before the summer.
