Ed Woodward has not given up hope of signing Pep Guardiola – report

Ed Woodward has not given up hope of luring Pep Guardiola to Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail’s Neil Ashton.

Man United are firmly of the belief that Manchester City have all but secured the Spaniard’s services but Woodward is still holding out hope of stealing him from under their fierce rival’s noses.

Louis van Gaal is under pressure at Old Trafford and widespread reports this week suggested the Dutchman offered his resignation to Woodward following the 1-0 defeat against Southampton last time out. However, Woodward is said to have convinced van Gaal not to go through with leaving.

As well as Guardiola, Jose Mourinho and Ryan Giggs are also in the frame to replace van Gaal should he go.

United’s prestige and history makes them an attractive proposition for any manager but the turmoil they are currently experiencing is bound to have an effect on Guardiola’s thinking.

It will pain fans to hear it but City are in a much more stable position and they will be there or thereabouts when the Premier League comes to it’s conclusion in May.
