Dutch reports suggest Louis van Gaal is on borrowed time at Manchester United

AD.nl have this morning published their latest opinion piece on Louis van Gaal‘s situation at Manchester United.

In the interests of being balanced, they cover both points of view – one on why van Gaal should be sacked and one on why van Gaal should be given more time.

The most interesting part comes in the introduction which suggests that van Gaal leaving Man United is now a case of when and not if he departs as manager. That’s the consensus which most United fans will agree with now; the debate has switched from whether van Gaal should go to when it needs to happen.

I feel that’s the biggest hurdle stopping anything from falling into place. If van Gaal were to go, would Ryan Giggs come in or Ed Woodward? Is it better to keep van Gaal until the end of the season and try to lure Pep Guardiola in after? Can United afford to do that and risk missing out on a Champions League place?

These are the sorts of questions which will be asked over the next couple of days as crunch talks happen between Ed Woodward and van Gaal and exactly why it’s not as simple as sacking Louis. It’s just as important to have a long-term strategy in place from the offset as it is to get rid of van Gaal in the first place.

Will it happen this week? There’s definitely more momentum than in December but United have denied reports van Gaal offered to resign, so it’s certainly a complicated situation.
