Injured Ashley Young could be back in six weeks – report

Manchester United’s Ashley Young is hopeful of returning to action in as little as six weeks following initial fears that his groin injury would keep him out for the rest of the campaign, according to MailOnline.

Young picked up the injury in the 1-0 win against Liverpool earlier this month and Louis van Gaal subsequently revealed that he expected the 30-year-old to be sidelined for a “long time”.

However, Young’s recovery period has been set at six to eight weeks, meaning he could be back for the Manchester derby at the end of March.

While it is a boost to hear that Young will be back sooner than expected, it still isn’t an ideal situation, with Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo also out.

Young had been in superb form prior to the injury and supporters will want to see him back on the pitch as soon as possible.

In his absence, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has made the step up to first team affairs, but United should not be relying on an 18-year-old.
