Guillermo Varela’s agent flying to Manchester to accelerate Genoa move

The agent of Manchester United defender Guillermo Varela is flying to Manchester this week in order to help push through a proposed loan deal to Genoa.

La Gazzetta dello Sport say Genoa want to push through a deal quickly but that Louis van Gaal wants to give Varela one more opportunity with an FA Cup run-out on Friday night before even considering letting him leave on loan.

Stories emerged this week linking Varela with an exit from Man United but with van Gaal’s squad already extremely thin at full-back, whether he’d be willing to let another player go is another matter altogether.

Genoa would clearly be interested if they are willing to send over somebody to Manchester so that discussions over a loan move could be agreed, but as I said it very much depends on United’s situation as to whether he’d be allowed to leave.

If Varela were to remain at United, it would be for the benefit of the club and potential detriment to his current carer progress because he’s unlikely to get lots of first-team playing time at any stage, so he’d probably be happy to move out on.
