Louis van Gaal explains what he wrote down after Daley Blind’s goal against Derby

Louis van Gaal has revealed what he was writing down following Daley Blind’s goal in Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Derby on Friday.

Van Gaal was seen scribbling in his notepad while those around him celebrated at Pride Park but the Dutchman insisted he was only noting Jesse Lingard as the player who provided the assist.

It was Man United’s second goal of the night after Wayne Rooney had opened the scoring against Derby. Juan Mata eventually sealed the win but van Gaal faced questions over his note-taking after the match:

Van Gaal has been criticised for an apparent lack of passion on the touchlines during his time in charge of United and the notes will do little to remove that image.

However, it is harsh to criticise him for that after what was a much improved performance against Derby.

Van Gaal will be hoping for an equally impressive display against Stoke City next week.
