Marouane Fellaini‘s continued inclusion in Manchester United’s starting XI in central midfield has been more of a handicap on the team than anything else.
The Belgian is not a central midfielder in any way shape or form a central midfielder yet Louis van Gaal has continued to play him there, despite the fact Ander Herrera would be far better in that position.
Yet, Bastian Schweinsteiger‘s potential return could, in theory, resolve our current problems in that position and hopefully he does make an appearance against Stoke City.
Alongside Morgan Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger is part of our best central midfield partnership which we have in the squad in my opinion. They compliment each other well, whereas Fellaini is an oaf and closer to being a tree than a central midfielder.
What I don’t understand is why Herrera hasn’t been used there but van Gaal clearly doesn’t have much confidence in him to play in that role, but it’s one which Schweinsteiger is far more accustomed to and we could really do with his return to action.
