Manchester United Potential XI vs Stoke City – Memphis returns

by Sam Peoples

Memphis Depay has had to settle for a place on the bench a lot this season at Manchester United.

The Dutchman’s performances have left a lot to be desired in what has been an underwhelming debut campaign so far but with three months of the season to go, Memphis will still have chances to turn his fortunes around. Tuesday night could be one of those opportunities.

Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney have cemented their places at left-wing and up-front respectively but Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata have been competing over on the right-wing, which is where Memphis has the chance to show himself.

Memphis might prefer to cut in from the left hand side but there’s no way he can displace Martial from that spot after his performance against Derby, so he’ll have to take whatever opportunity Louis van Gaal gives him and hopefully that is against Stoke.

We’ve seen in recent weeks how important it is to have pace back in this team and with both Memphis and Martial on the wings, we’d have pace aplenty.
