Omar Elabdellaoui’s agent confirms Manchester United interest

The agent of Olympiacos defender Omar Elabdellaoui has confirmed that Manchester United are interested in signing him.

Reports on transfer deadline day suggested that Man United were plotting a late move for Elabdellaoui, who played for Manchester City as a youth player between 2011 and 2013.

The player’s agent, Jim Solbakken, confirmed United’s interest and hinted that any deal may take place late in the transfer window.

“The interest of Manchester United is in place. We will see what happens during the night,” he said.

United have had to contend with an injury crisis at the back in recent months, with Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian all sidelined.

Elabdellaoui, although perhaps not the established name that United supporters may have been expecting, will add depth to the squad if he does come in.

However, the window has to go down as an underwhelming one, even if he is signed. It is clear that United have a number of problems and, with Pep Guardiola going to City, the gap has been emphasised even further.
