Goldstein: Giggs missed Stoke win due to illness

TalkSPORT’s Andy Goldstein has confirmed that Ryan Giggs missed Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Stoke City on Tuesday due to illness.

Giggs was absent from the touchline against Stoke and speculation quickly arose suggesting he was set to take over at Celtic.

However, the rumours were shut down by Goldstein, who tweeted during the game to allay fans’ fears:

Giggs missed arguably one of United’s most impressive performances of the season as they tore apart a Stoke side who had beaten them not too long ago on Boxing Day last year.

Goals from Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney wrapped up the three points and it could have quite easily have been more.

It was crucial that United built on the win against Derby last week and they did exactly that against Stoke. With Manchester City recently confirming that Pep Guardiola will join them next season, it was the performance which Louis van Gaal needed.
