Manchester United’s Michael Carrick offered new 12 month contract – report

Manchester United have offered a new 12-month contract to Michael Carrick, according to Football Insider.

Carrick’s current deal at Old Trafford expires in the summer but Louis van Gaal has recommended that the club tie him down to a new contract.

However, there is interest in Carrick from MLS sides LA Galaxy and New York Red Bulls and he could yet move to the USA.

Carrick, who recently returned from injury, put in a superb display in Man United’s 3-0 win over Stoke City on Tuesday.

His importance to this United team cannot be understated and he remains a key part of the squad despite the fact that he is entering the twilight of his career.

If Carrick does stay at United, it is likely that he will have to pick and choose his moments to play in much the same way that Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes did but there would be no qualms from the Old Trafford faithful if he did sign a new deal.
