Jose Mourinho has signed a deal to become Manchester United manager – report

by Sam Peoples

Like clockwork, the Jose Mourinho to Manchester United rumours have started to gather pace.

Less than 12 hours after it was reported in Italy that Man United were close to appointing Mourinho, El Confidencial in Spain has cranked it up a notch with this long and detailed article.

The main crux of the article is the suggestion that Jorge Mendes, Mourinho’s agent, has signed a deal to take Jose to Old Trafford and they quote Portuguese sources. Mendes has an excellent, close working relationship with United already so that would play into our hands when it comes to negotiations, and gives a further incentive to Mendes for getting him the United job.

El Confidencial also discusses in detail that they feel Mourinho would be the only manager capable of challenging Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, having been Real Madrid boss during Guardiola’s reign at Barcelona. Could that rivalry be re-ignited in Manchester next year? El Confidencial certainly think a deal has already been signed.

For me, it’s now a case of when and not if Mourinho becomes United manager. Van Gaal just isn’t up to the task of the change needed; he is 64 and set in his ways. Only in recent games have we seen a marked shift and the football has noticeably improved.

Could Mourinho already be on his to way to United? El Confidencial think so.
