Backpages: Jose Mourinho has agreed personal terms in principle with Manchester United

by Sam Peoples

Thursday’s newspaper back pages have once again added further fuel to the Jose Mourinho to Manchester United stories.

The Mirror reports that Mourinho has agreed personal terms in principle with Man United worth £15 million-a-season and say the Portuguese manager is keen to bring in Atletico Madrid sporting director Andrea Berta as well.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail says United’s squad is split over the appointment of Mourinho, citing concerns over where Ryan Giggs would fit in under his management.

Probably the most exciting development from these stories is the suggestion that Ed Woodward would be removed from his role as executive vice-chairman, meaning he would go back into working strictly on the business side of things at United where he has always excelled.

Louis van Gaal being replaced by Mourinho and Woodward being pushed away from making football decisions at United? Sounds like a big step towards United correctly restructuring themselves to move forward. We’ll have some opinion pieces on these stories throughout the night and Sam will give his views in Thursday’s United180 show on United Peoples TV.
