Here is a round-up of today’s Manchester United news and transfer gossip.

Reports indicate that Jose Mourinho has told close friends he expects to become boss at Manchester United. Gianluca di Marzio has also claimed Mourinho will replace Louis van Gaal at the end of the season.

Raphael Varane will be Mourinho’s top target if he takes over as manager from the Dutchman at Old Trafford, according to Manchester Evening News. The 22-year-old joined Real Madrid while the Portuguese manager was in charge and has blossomed at the Bernabeu since then.

Newcastle United are monitoring Michael Carrick‘s contract situation at Man United and are interested in a free transfer for the midfielder in the summer transfer window, according to The Times.

The 34-year-old has four months left on his contract and has allegedly been left in the dark over his future at Old Trafford. Reports suggest he is happy to wait for Van Gaal to make a decision.

Sir Alex Ferguson believes Mauricio Pochettino is the best manager in the Barclays Premier League, according to Labour MP David Lammy. The 43-year-old has been praised for his work with Tottenham Hotspur and has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester.
