Teddy Sheringham believes Ryan Giggs should leave Manchester United if Jose Mourinho replaces Louis van Gaal as manager.
Mourinho has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford and reports suggest he has already agreed personal terms with the club.
Giggs was in line to take over from the Dutchman and was even labeled as his successor, however a disappointing season has called for a boss with more experience to help reform the squad.
The former Man United striker insists the Welshman will only learn if he’s sat in the hot-seat.
“Manchester United are expected to be at the top and they’re not, so anything else is not great and that’s all you can say on that.” Sheringham said.
“I think he [Giggs] should go off and manage another football team. He’s been manager for four games, he has everything to learn to do with management. He’ll be learning some things if he has a close relationship with Van Gaal, but you only really learn if you’re in the hot-seat.”
Sheringham is absolutely spot on in that as much as the experience learning from van Gaal is a good thing, Giggs needs to learn about what it is like to be a manager in charge before he is even considered for the United job.
To give Giggs the job now would be lunacy and a risk United are surely not willing to take, so I think Giggs should definitely be looking to leave and branch out so he can get some much needed experience. Without it, I struggle to see how he can get a job as a top manager for any club.
