Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal knows his future is uncertain if he fails to qualify for the Champions League.

The Dutchman’s side are six points behind fourth-placed Manchester City in the Premier League with 13 games of the season remaining.

Jose Mourinho has been heavily linked with replacing van Gaal wouldn’t go as far as to say his job was secure if Champions League qualification never came.

“It is not a question for me, I think,” said van Gaal.

“It is a question of the board of Manchester United, you have to put that question to them. I have a contract for three years.”

United finished fourth last year invested heavily during the summer, so for us to finish anything less than third means we haven’t progressed from the 2014/15 season at all where we finished in fourth place.

Not qualifying for the Champions League would definitely see van Gaal removed as manager but whether or not he remains in charge long enough to see that through remains to be seen.
