Matteo Darmian taken off with shoulder injury against Sunderland

Matteo Darmian was taken off in the first half against Sunderland with a worrying looking shoulder injury.

The Italian defender went down heavily after a late challenge and was immediately in pain on the ground.

He was holding his shoulder with a grimaced face and had his shirt rolled up into a makeshift sleeve before he went straight down the tunnel.

Judging by how it looked, it could be a dislocated shoulder or potentially a broken collarbone.

With Guillermo Varela and Antonio Valencia out with injuries, Donald Love came on to make his debut at right-back which means we’ve two academy graduates make their debut in that position this year simply because of injuries to others.

We’ve had rotten luck with injuries this season, especially in the full-back positions and even more so at right-back, so let’s hope Darmian is OK and his injury is merely a contact one and nothing more.
