Inter Milan left-back Yuto Nagatomo has revealed he rejected a Manchester United bid this season.

Louis van Gaal was busy looking to improve his defence during January and was linked with the 29-year-old in the January window by the Italian press.

The Dutchman’s side have struggled with a host of defensive injuries this season and haven’t been able to find a consistent backline, but Nagatomo rejected Man United’s advances.

“I like everything about Inter, I want to stay here and renew my contract,” Nagatomo said.

“I turned down an offer from Manchester United, as my desire is to stay here. I have an excellent rapport with Roberto Mancini.

United’s lack of signings in January came as a surprise given how much we spent in the summer but not many fans expected there to be any new arrivals, and so it proved.

The world works in mysterious ways sometimes and conversely the fact we didn’t sign a left-back in January has allowed Cameron Borthwick-Jackson to establish himself. He’s started off so well that if he continues in this vein of form then Luke Shaw has some real competition in that position, healthy competition.
