Player Ratings: Sunderland 2-1 Man United

by Sam Peoples

David de Gea 8 – It’s not often you have a goalkeeper who fills you with confidence every single game is it? De Gea is one of those players. He’s so good.

Matteo Darmian N/A – Unfair to give him a rating because he went off injured quite early on.

Chris Smalling 6 – Not much to say about Blind really.

Daley Blind 6 – The better defender than Smalling on the day.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson 6 – A wavering performance from him today but his crosses woke up in the second half.

Morgan Schneiderlin 5 – Pretty poor from Schneiderlin after he was brought back into the team.

Michael Carrick 5 – That was not the sort of performance you expect from Carrick.

Juan Mata – Thought he again looked pretty good in the No.10 role but that’s not saying much in the grand scheme of things.

Jesse Lingard 5 – Was similarly ineffective as he was against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge but didn’t have a worldy goal to cover over it.

Wayne Rooney 6 – Was plenty of running from him but not enough direct attacking.

Anthony Martial His goal was beautiful and I could watch that on repeat every day. He’s a cut above everyone else.

Subs

Donald Love 5 – Shaky start on his debut

Memphis Depay 5 – Didn’t do enough when he came on.

Will Keane N/A
