Matteo Darmian suffered a dislocated shoulder in Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to Sunderland on Saturday and that gives us another selection headache.
One potential solution to that would be Guillermo Varela coming back to fitness and being ready to start.
I was a little surprised that Darmian was brought back into the team straight after he returned to fitness because Varela was in a good run of form, but he showed it was vindicated with his performances.
Now, the shoe could be on the other foot and Varela might come back into the team.
Whoever takes advantage of the opportunity between Varela and Donald Love will likely be our right-back for the next few games because Darmian is going to be sidelined for the best part of two months.
Injuries have plagued our team this season but the chances it gives to youngsters are a silver lining if they can excel like Cameron Borthwick-Jackson. Here’s hoping one of Varela or Love can do just that.
