Jose Mourinho could become Manchester United’s manager before Arsenal – report

Manchester United’s board may have changed their stance on Louis van Gaal following his comments on our chances in the top four season, reports The Sun.

Suggesting that van Gaal admitting Europa League was Man United’s best chance of a top four spot was a step too far, Neil Custis says Jose Mourinho could be in charge before Arsenal visit Old Trafford at the end of February.

From United’s perspective, there really is nothing to lose by bringing in Mourinho as soon as possible. Van Gaal has shown nothing to suggest a genuine top four push is on the cards with this current United side but as we are only six points behind Manchester City, it’s still within our reach mathematically.

Now, we of course need to bear in mind that Custis was the journalist who van Gaal called a ‘fat man’, somebody who hasn’t had the best relationship with United’s boss. So, that should be taken into account when considering these reports in terms of questioning their validity and context.

I’d love Mourinho to be in charge before Arsenal. I honestly think we’d have a great chance of finishing in the top four if he was brought in quickly enough but van Gaal should have been sacked in December and I’m not sure that stance would have changed now, as much as we all want it to.
