Owen Hargreaves has urged Manchester United to complete the signature of Benfica midfielder Renato Sanches.
The 18-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer and reports suggest our scouts have already been busy behind the scenes watching him in action.
Sanches has a release clause in excess of £60m but Rui Vitória would allegedly willing to accept a bid in excess of £47m (60m euros) – not bad for an 18-year-old at all.
Speaking about Sanches, Hargreaves insists Louis van Gaal should take the risk.
“I’m not sure 60m euros is a gamble,” he said.
“The release clause is ridiculous but he’s going to be a super player, no question.
“18-year-old, only played fifteen games so far but he’s got a terrific future ahead of him.
“He’s more of a box-to-box midfielder. Really good passer of the ball. Great striker of the ball from distance.”
Bastian Schweinsteiger could have been that box-to-box midfielder for United but his fitness isn’t there any more, and neither Morgan Schneiderlin or Michael Carrick are that sort of player. Ander Herrera is probably the only one who fits that mould and van Gaal completely overlooks him in it.
To be fair, I don’t see van Gaal being in charge come the summer and as Jorge Mendes is Sanches’ agent and Jose Mourinho’s, it would certainly tick his box to see Renato move to Old Trafford.
