FC Midtjylland midfielder Tim Sparv admits beating Manchester United in the Europa League would be bittersweet for him.
Louis van Gaal‘s side have travelled to Denmark today ahead of their fixture at the MCH Arena on Thursday night off the back of another disappointing loss, this time to Sunderland, which has left fans extremely frustrated.
Having been a lifelong Red, Sparv wants to see United do well but just not in Denmark on Thursday in a competition he doesn’t feel the club should be in.
He said: “In my eyes Manchester United are a Champions League team. They should always compete in the Champions League and should always get past the groups.
“But the last couple of seasons have been frustrating for every United fan. It will be interesting to see what their approach will be coming into the Europa League, which is a very competitive environment.”
He’s right but United have made their own bed with what was a dismal Champions League group stage and now we’ve got to try our best to win a competition which we never have before.
As for Sparv being a United fan, it sounds like it was King Eric who wooed him.
He added: “Eric had personality, character and dominated the space around him, his aura was exceptional. He made me a United fan.”
Sounds like a win win situation for Sparv then really. If Midtjyllan win on the night then he’ll be celebrating but if they lose they can celebrate United’s victory. Happy days.
In all seriousness, anything but a win on the night in Denmark would be a terrible result for Louis van Gaal‘s United and only crank up the pressure even further.
