Pictures: Anthony Martial training ahead of FC Midtjylland

Anthony Martial‘s importance to Manchester United this season was taken up a notch following the news that Wayne Rooney has suffered knee ligament damage.

The Frenchman has been one of our key players this season but with Rooney out for what could be a couple of months, Man United are effectively going to have to rely on Martial to provide the goals.

Will Keane will get his opportunities but Martial has ten goals this season already and we’re going to need him to take his performances up a level if we can cope without the goals of Rooney. Typically, his injury came just as he was in a run of excellent form.

Martial has already exceeded expectations in his debut campaign at United but Rooney’s injury means everyone will now turn to the 20-year-old year to step forward and replace his goals.

It’s a lot to ask of Martial but he’s delivered on everything and more this season, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he stepped up to the plate with this as well.
