Manchester United fans were pleased with Memphis Depay‘s performance despite their side’s 2-1 loss against FC Midtjylland on Thursday night in the Europa League.

The Dutchman, who has been largely ostracised by Louis van Gaal this term, was handed a rare start and duly delivered, scoring an important away goal and producing an energetic display.

Supporters were happy to see the Dutchman rediscover some much needed form in a Man United shirt:

The story of Memphis has compared with the wider story of United this season; brimming with promise, the occasional bright moment, but mainly a failure.

Tonight, regardless of the result, United fans can be satisfied with the way their No.7 played. The 22-year-old was mostly peripheral for the first half until his scuffed goal on 37 minutes, which acted as a catalyst for a more dynamic performance throughout the game.

At 1-1, the Dutchman delivered a pinpoint ball to Juan Mata, whose header drifted wide, which consequently gave the initiative to the home side before they netted the winner. Van Gaal will hope he can recreate a similar performance in a must-win home leg next week.
