Jose Mourinho has signed a three-year contract worth £48m to replace Louis van Gaal as manager of Manchester United, according to Football Insider. The pre-contract agreement, which will net Mourinho £16million-a-year, equivalent to £308,000-a-week, will see the Portuguese manager take over in the summer.

The Mirror are suggesting that Man United’s players face a wage cut of 25% if the club fails to qualify for the Champions League. Winning the Europa League looked to be United’s best chance of qualifying for Europe’s elite competition but van Gaal’s side were beaten 2-1 by FC Midtjylland on Thursday.

Vice-Chair of the Man United Supports Trust Ian Stirling insists Ryan Giggs will leave Man United if Mourinho replaces van Gaal as manager. There have been widespread reports that Mourinho, who was sacked by Chelsea earlier this term, will take over at Old Trafford in the event of van Gaal’s exit.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he blocked an approach from Man United to take Mathieu Debuchy on loan for the rest of the season. Van Gaal made the move on the final day of the winter transfer window but right-back Debuchy ended up making the switch to Ligue 1 side Bordeaux instead.
