Ryan Giggs will resign if Jose Mourinho joins Manchester United – report

Ryan Giggs will leave Manchester United if Jose Mourinho replaces Louis van Gaal as manager, according to the Vice-Chair of the Manchester United Supports Trust Ian Stirling.

Confidence in van Gaal has reached a new low following Man United’s 2-1 loss against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League on Thursday.

There have been widespread reports that Mourinho, who was sacked by Chelsea earlier this term, will take over at Old Trafford in the event of van Gaal’s exit. However, Stirling claimed that Giggs would resign as assistant manager at United if that happens:

Supporters have been wondering why van Gaal is still in a job following United’s dreadful form and the claim may explain why Ed Woodward has been reluctant to let the Dutchman go.

Giggs is a club legend but surely he must realise that van Gaal is not the right man to lead United.

By being stubborn over his position at United, he is hurting the club he loves. It is a precarious situation for all parties involved but decisions need to be made soon.
