Steve Bruce: Manchester United could recall Nick Powell from Hull City loan

Hull City boss Steve Bruce has admitted he is concerned that Manchester United may recall Nick Powell from his loan at the KC Stadium.

Powell, who is out of contract at Man United in the summer, joined Hull on loan for the rest of the campaign on the final day of the winter transfer window.

However, United’s injury problems have since escalated, with David de Gea and Wayne Rooney the latest players to pick up complaints. Bruce insisted that he has not yet had contact from United.

“Nick’s only 21, he’s a wonderful talent. I remember watching him play for Wigan in the Championship when he was 18 or 19 and he did very well,” Bruce said.

“He’s got fantastic talent and I’m not just looking at it for the next three months, I’d love to make it permanent if I could.”

When asked about the possibility of a recall, Bruce added: ”It’s a possibility because of their injury situation, but we’ve had no contact from them just yet about that.

“I think they just want him to go out and play somewhere but, of course, they have injury problems. It’s something I can’t speculate on. At the moment, Nick is itching to get started here and let’s hope he plays well on Saturday.”

Powell was used by Louis van Gaal a handful of times prior to his move to Hull but he failed to impress.

It’s safe to say that the youngster is not of United quality but van Gaal may be forced to bring him back if the injury crisis gets even worse. Van Gaal’s decision to trim the squad in the summer has certainly come back to haunt him.
