Former Manchester United midfielder Steve Coppell feels Jose Mourinho could be the ideal manager to take over from Louis van Gaal.
The Dutchman’s future at Old Trafford has come under fire as a result of the club’s disappointing performances on the pitch.
Mourinho has been heavily linked with a move to Man United and Inter Milan director Bedy Moratti’s believes the Portuguese manager is on his way to Manchester.
Coppell says Man United could be the perfect destination for Mourinho to challenge himself.
Speaking on BBC Five Live, Coppell said: “Mourinho is hovering with intent, you look at his records and the clubs that he has managed, you wonder where he can go to give him a challenge at this stage in his career. He’d be ideal if Man United decide if there is no future left with Louis van Gaal.”
United need Mourinho just as much as Mourinho needs United. Given the current situation, it’s a managerial match which makes perfect sense for both sides.
It certainly would be a challenge for Mourinho as well as instead of having a club ready to win trophies straight away, he would have to build it. That’s a different scenario to what he’s done previously but one which wouldn’t stop him taking his dream job at Old Trafford.
With every passing day, the Mourinho rumours are getting louder and harder to ignore. Even a confident win from United on Monday won’t quieten that and I personally think it’s a matter of time before Jose is confirmed as van Gaal’s replacement.
